Kangaroo Facts

There are four species that are commonly referred to as kangaroos: The Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) is the largest surviving marsupial anywhere in the world. A large male can be 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) tall and weigh 90 kg (200 lb), The Eastern Grey Kangaroo, The Western Grey Kangaroo and theThe Antilopine Kangaroo.

Kangaroos are the only large animals to use hopping as a means of locomotion. The comfortable hopping speed for Red Kangaroo is about 20-25km/h (13–16 mph), but speeds of up to 70 km/h (44 mph) can be attained, over short distances. Kangaroos store up elastic strain energy the the large stretchy tendons of their legs. This gives them a spring action which provides most of the energy for their hops. If you have ever tried hopping for along period of time. you probably wished you had springs in your legs too.

What do kangaroos eat? Kangaroos are grazers, they eat mostly grass and some shrubs.

A kangaroos feet are so large that it has difficulty walking, it uses it large, powerful tail to help it balance.
