Beginners Photography
Your Camera and Getting Started Part 1
Are you interested in creating art with photography? Are you interested in learning how to take better pictures? Photography is the art of producing images. Photography is all about drawing with light. With digital photography, the sky is the limit with your imagination, your camera and your computer! |
Beginners Digital Photography Part 1 An artist needs equipment and materials to complete their masterpiece so the first step is to understand your photography equipment like a painter would understand brushes and canvas.
There are two types of digital cameras: The Compact Camera (point and shoot) usually does everything automatically for you and it is small and convenient to carry in your pocket or purse so you will be ready to take pictures anytime, but it may not have the capability of taking a good photograph in some situations
The SLR Camera (Single Lens Reflex) gives you more creative control and has interchangeable lens.
According to the Merriam-Webster On-Line Dictionary, "Single Lens Reflex" (SLR) means "a camera having a single lens that forms an image which is reflected to the viewfinder or recorded on film." This means that you can look through the camera lens and see the same image that will be captured and make manual adjustments by using different buttons, dials and menus on your camera to create a more artistic photograph or take a better exposed photograph in different lighting situations.

How to Choose a Beginners Photography CameraWhat type of digital camera do you need? You may want to ask yourself a few questions before deciding which camera type is right for you:
Deciding on the right camera is a big decision that you and your parents will make as you begin your digital photography adventure. If you plan to buy a new digital camera, how much you want to spend will also determine which camera to choose (point and shoot, SLR, new or used, etc.). Do you already have a camera? Why don't you take a few minutes to look at your own camera equipment. What kind of camera do you have? Do you have a Compact (point and shoot) or do you have an SLR (Single Lens Reflex)? Take some time to get familiar with your camera, your camera buttons, dials and menu options. In Beginning Photography part 2 we will look at more equipment you will need. |
